Alger Robert Gustafson, age 86, of Grand Rapids passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 after dealing with health issues for the past two years. Alger was born on April 21, 1929 in LeRoy, MI, the son of Carl E. and Edna Olsen Gustafson. He attended Central Michigan University until he was called to serve his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After the war he went to work with his brother as co-owner of the Gustafson Dry Wall Company. For many years he attended Calvary Church. Alger loved the time he and his wife spent at their cottage on Rose Lake in LeRoy, MI. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dolores Gustafson (nee Vachul); his son and daughter, Mark (Karen) Gustafson of Armada, MI and Julie (William) Moore of Ada, MI.; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Robyn Risdon, Bryan Moore, Megan Moore, Kelsey Gustafson, Kara (Ken) Randall and Joseph Reinhardt; 3 great-grandchildren and his brother, Carl J. Gustafson. He was preceded in death by his brother, James B. Gustafson and his sister, Neoma Sutherland. The family will receive friends for one hour (12:00 to 1:00) prior to the funeral service which will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday at Calvary Church, 707 East Beltline. Interment at Rosedale Memorial Park. Military Honors by the Kent County Honor Guard. For those who wish memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
