Daniel K. Drummond

Daniel Kyle Drummond, age 69 of Shelbyville (formerly of Rockford), died peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, May 20, 2016.  Dan proudly served his country as a US Army Sergeant in the 4th Infantry Division in the Vietnam War where he was awarded a purple heart.  Once home from Vietnam, Dan spent more than 35 years in the sign industry.  Installing high rise signs were his favorite.  Most notably servicing the Weather Ball when it was on the Old Kent Bank building, putting together and installing the Van Andel Arena scoreboard along with installing many more iconic West Michigan signs.  Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Velma along with siblings Fred, Bing, Dick and Jack Drummond.  He is survived by his daughters Holly (James) Shupe, Brandi (Kevin) Clark and son Andrew (Kayla) Berli.  Dan had five grandchildren that he was very proud of and loved very much;  Brennon and Olivia Shupe, Lucas and Della Clark and Daniel Berli.  He is also survived by his sisters Mary Garver, Suzy Persinger and sister-in–law Glenna Drummond along with his wonderful and loving girlfriend Sue Andringa, who was there every step of the way during his battle with cancer.  Dan will be remembered for the love and devotion he had for his family.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 24 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm and funeral service Wednesday, May 25 11:00 am at the funeral home.  His family would like to thank the compassionate doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital and Lacks Cancer Center; especially Lanette Obenauf who was truly an angel for Dan and his family.  In lieu of flowers please consider contributions to the Disabled Veterans of America, 4809 Eastern Ave. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49508.
