Hilda Mary Ellis

Hilda Mary Ellis of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully Wednesday January 11, 2017 at the age of 91.  Hilda was born in Grand Rapids on May 15, 1925 to the late John and Mary Ellis. She will be lovingly remembered by her nephew Steve (Carol) Karrip and their son Eric Cheadle; niece Sandy (Shane) Reynolds and their children Austin, Lisa and Matthew; niece Kris Karrip; nephew John (Renee) Ellis, their daughter Lauren (Jeffrey) Kallil, their son Nicholas (Alex) Ellis, granddaughter Noelle; and Andrea VanProoyen and her family for her wonderful attentive care for Hilda.  Also surviving are many close cousins and friends.   Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother George Ellis, brother and sister-in-law Nick and Josephine Ellis and her sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Bill Karrip.  Hilda worked for many years as an executive secretary for Independent Liberty Life Insurance Company.  She was a member of St. George Orthodox Church all of her life and was very involved in all of the activities at church.  Visitation will be held Friday at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. with a Trisagion prayer service held at 7:30 P.M.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 14th at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 334 LaGrave Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Church.
