Jack Edward Landman of Rockford passed away on April 16, 2018 at age 85. He was born on December 31, 1932 to William & Marguerite (VanWingen) Landman. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 62 years, Judy; children Mark (Pam) Landman, Mindy (Jim) Kinner, David (Deb) Landman, Doug (Kyle) Landman; brother William (Jane) Landman; sister Peg Keall; 6 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Jack grew up in East Grand Rapids, where he met Judy, earned his Eagle Scout and was named to the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the EGR High School class of 1950. At Michigan State, he was a Varsity Diver, a Cheerleader and a Lifetime Member of the MSU Varsity ‘S’ Club. After serving as a First Lieutenant in the Army at Ft. Sill, OK, Jack joined his father at the WJ Landman Insurance Agency, eventually taking over the role of President.
With his signature humor, Jack was deeply committed to our community - playing leadership roles in many organizations throughout his life, including: President of the Grand Rapids Jaycees, President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Greater Grand Rapids, Trustee/Treasurer of the Forest Hills Educational Foundation, the Board of Deacons of Mayflower Congregational Church, and he helped lead several successful millage campaigns for GRPS and Forest Hills Public Schools.
Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday April 24 from 4pm - 7pm at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service at 4291 Cascade Rd. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday April 25 at Mayflower Congregational Church at 2345 Robinson Road SE. Memorial contributions may be made to Mayflower Congregational Church, Frederick Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, or a charity of your choice.
