Jens Bach

Jens Bach, of both Cascade Township, Michigan and Santa Rosa Beach Florida, age 78, passed away after a short fight with cancer. 

Jens was born outside of Juelsminde, Denmark where he lived until the age of 9.  Jens and his family immigrated to the United States and ultimately settled in Ludington, Michigan where his family owned and operated a bakery and candy store.  After graduating from Ludington High School, he received his Bachelor’s degree from Albion College and continued his education receiving a Master’s degree from Michigan State University.  Jens spent 20 years in the banking industry before moving into a career of commercial real estate.  He served as the board president for the Southeast YMCA and for 30 years he was a volunteer ski patrolman at Cannonsburg Ski resort. 

After retiring in 1998, Jens and Margie moved to the Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.  During his retirement he enjoyed golf, was involved in the local rotary club, and volunteered at Habitat for Humanity.  Jens’ true passion at this time was his volunteer work at the Path of Grace.  The Path of Grace is a nonprofit, long term program for woman recovering from addictions.  Jens’ unconditional love for people and his generous heart for everyone was evident in this mission.  On any given day you would find him visiting the residents in their thrift shop or supporting them through their journey.

Jens was proceeded in death by his father Ernst, his mother Anna, and his sister Hanne.  Jens is survived by Margie, his wife of 56 years.  His brother Niels Bach (Jane).  His children Mary VanderVeen (Scott), Sarah Peshek (Chris), Carole Rehmet (Chris), and Jens David Bach (Cheryl).  His Grandchildren Drew (Joey), Kyle (Tessa), Steve, Jake, and Maria VanderVeen; Jackson and Joseph Rehmet; Katie, RJ, and Tigist Peshek; and extend family Marlyn Bolom, Rossy Sical, Lily Merida, Diane Smith, and Jenny Mason.

The Bach family would like to express a special thank you to Emmanuel Hospice for standing by them through this journey.

Services will be held Sunday, October 1st, 2017 at Cascade Christian Church, 2829 Thornapple River Dr SE, Grand Rapids, MI beginning with a family visitation at 2:00 pm, followed by a celebration life at 3:00 pm, concluding with a reception following the celebration.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Path of Grace or any charity of your choice.
