LaVella A. (Thames) Holkeboer

LaVella A. (Thames) Holkeboer, age 84, passed away on September 20, 2017 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Joe and Flossie (Stokes) Thames.  She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Holkeboer, her only child, Kevin Louie Evans, her parents and several brothers and a sister.  She is survived by a granddaughter Ochena Prebble (Anderson Cotton), 4 great- grandchildren Jatori, Marquise, Evyn, Nailah and 2 great great grandchildren Christian and Ella.  Also surviving are siblings Flossie, Lena, Luther and many nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law Alma Holkeboer.  LaVella is also survived by her stepchildren Miriam Holkeboer Herron (Michael), Grant Holkeboer, granddaughter Katherine Clemmens and great-grandchildren Sara Harrison and Kythera Ausmus.  She was employed by the Kent County Juvenile Court System for over 34 years working with Judge John P. Steketee and his successor until her retirement in 1995.  A private committal service was held at Graceland Memorial Park.
