Lorna Fern (Scoville) Powell

Lorna Fern (Scoville) Powell began her heavenly life in the early morning of October 26th. She was born on December 12, 1935 to Orlo and Fern Scoville in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her parents predeceased her. Lorna had one brother, Gordon Scoville, who has also passed. Lorna’s first husband, Richard Wing passed away in 1989. She married Bill (William) Powell, and he passed away in 2008. Lorna was the Chairman of the Board of Powell Relocation Group and was active in the business until her death. She was very active in the Grand Rapids community and enjoyed spending time listening to Big Band music and spending time with her friends at the Polish Falcons Hall.  She was a member of the Rotary, Economic and Lions Clubs. She was an honorary band member with her significant other, Ken Kuipers, in several bands that played weekly in local nursing homes. She took great pride in promoting Sam’s Swing Band. She was the heart and soul of our family. She is survived by her three sons Gregory (Karen) Wing, Chip Wing, and Chris Wing. Grandchildren Jake Wing, Jenna (Don) Taylor, Allison Wing, Sean Wing, Taylor Wing and Hunter Wing. Her very special and significant other, Ken Kuipers also survives. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on the 4th and 5th floors of the Meijer Heart Center for their care, concern and compassion of Lorna. She fought valiantly to stay here with us. Her positive attitude will continue to live on in her children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 29th  from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service time at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Chapel where funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. on Monday, October 30th. Following the funeral service everyone is welcome to attend a gathering at Noto’s Old World Italian Dining 6600 28th Street SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49546, for a celebration of Lorna’s life. Private family graveside services will take place at Rest Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the following charities in her memory: the Lions Club of Grand Rapids or the Downtown Rotary Club.
