Peter V. Luce

Peter Vernon Luce (Pete), 84, passed away on July 3, 2017; He was born on August 20, 1932 to Robert and Lorna Luce.  

Peter was a lifelong resident in Grand Rapids, MI. He graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1950.  After high school, he attended Michigan State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was an ROTC member while in college and, upon graduation, went into service in the Army. 

Pete and Kay Vickery were united in marriage in 1955 in Detroit, MI and remained happily married for 62 years. 

He worked his entire career for Steelecase retiring in 1994.  He loved playing tennis, sailing on Reeds Lake, watching his Spartans win basketball championships, and singing in the choir at Mayflower Congregational Church. The last ten years of his life were spent as an active volunteer raising 9 puppies for Paws With A Cause, an organization who raises puppies to become service dogs for people with disabilities.  

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Luce, and Robert and Lorna Tuller. 

Peter is survived by his spouse Kay of Grand Rapids; his daughters Karen (Patrick) Rinker, of Ionia, Constance Luce and Kishore Patnam, of Boulder, CO;  sons Scott Luce, of  Grand Rapids and David (Elise) Luce ,  Austin,TX, his brother Ted Luce, West Lafayette, IN;  and his sister Margot (Joe) Saladino, Alto, MI; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

We are grateful for the compassionate service of Hospice of Lansing/Ionia during the last months of Peter’s life. He died peacefully in the home of Pat and Karen Rinker.

A memorial service will be held at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service, 4291 Cascade Road, S.E. Grand Rapids, MI on July 18, 2017 at 11:00am. Guests will be greeted prior to the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Paws With A Cause 4646 South Division St. Wayland, MI 49348.   Condolences may be left on the online guest book.
