Robert G. Bowman D.O.

Friday, July 22, 2016 in his home on Lake Michigan surrounded by his loving family.  Dr. Robert Bowman was born in Orange NJ on September 25, 1935 the son of George and Ruth (Kinney) Bowman. He graduated from Caldwell High School, in Caldwell, NJ class of 1953. He attended Springfield College in Springfield, MA where he graduated with a B.S. Degree followed by Medical School at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating in 1961. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Gamma Fraternity.
Dr. Bowman moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1961 and completed his internship and residency in Anesthesia in 1964. He served on staff as a Board Certified Anesthesiologist at Metropolitan Hospital until his retirement in 2002. During that time he served as the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia, Resident Trainer Department of Anesthesia, Chief of Staff, Board of Directors Metropolitan Hospital, Director of Medical Education, Chairman of Legacy Leader Committee, Board of Directors Kent County Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, American Osteopathic Board Examiners Anesthesiology, American Osteopathic Association and most recently on the Board of Directors of Metro Health Hospital Foundation.  He has 2 operating rooms named in his honor.
Dr. Bowman was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church. and served on the Boards of Christian Education, Deacons and Trustees. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors Michigan Conference Christian Churches.
On July 15, 1957 he was united in marriage to Suzanne Sedgwick Cronk who survives. He will be sadly missed by his family that he adored which include three sons, Jeffrey and Rhonda of Ashgrove, MO; Scott of East Grand Rapids; Todd and Libby (Hopper) of Grand Rapids Twp.; twelve grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Dustin, Hadley, William, Emma, Abigail, Andrew, Anna, Ainsley and Amelia and two great grandchildren Reagan and Addilee. He is also survived by his brother George Bowman of Broadlands, VA and many nieces and nephews. All who knew Bob loved and respected him. He was generous and compassionate and influenced the lives of many.  He cherished his family, teaching, gardening, history, travel and boating on both Lake Michigan and at “camp” on Highland Lake in Stoddard, NH
The Family will receive friends at the Frederick Meijer Gardens in the Garden View Room from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 27th. (Must use the Bradford St. entrance and reserved parking will be available in Lot A) There will be a Memorial Service on July 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Mayflower Congregational Church located on 2345 Robinson Rd SE, Grand Rapids. Cremation has occurred. Graveside services which will be held for the family in Stoddard, New Hampshire at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions may be made to Metro Health Hospital Foundation Child Life Services.
