Wilbert G. Mellinger

Wilbert G. “Bill/Skip” Mellinger ended his journey on earth Tuesday October 24, 2017 at the age of 86 in Marietta, GA.  Bill was born March 28, 1931 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to Wilbert W. and Mildred E. Mellinger. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sisters at birth, his oldest son Richard and the love of his life, and his wife of 55 years, Betty Jean.  Surviving Bill are his four children who he loves dearly: Sandra (Bill) Stedman of Davie, FL, Janet Warren of Indio, CA, Patricia (Steve) Miller of Marietta, GA and Wilbert J. “Will” Mellinger of Cascade, MI.  He is also survived by five grandchildren: Michael Stedman of Napa, CA, Jessica Miller of The Woodlands, TX, Sarah Miller of Austin, TX, Haley Mellinger of Spring Lake, MI and Dillon Warren of Grand Rapids, MI. Bill also has four great grandchildren. 

Upon graduation from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953, he was commissioned and entered active duty in the Air Force serving in a variety of locations.  Bill worked in a variety of Human Resource management positions for Lear Siegler-Smiths Industries and retired after 32 years of service in Grand Rapids, California and Washington D.C.  He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis, Elks Lodge, and the American Legion. Bill was all about family and enjoyed travelling to spend time with them. He especially enjoyed his Friday luncheon’s/meeting with his Lear Siegler Retiree’s group.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday October 30, 2017 at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home 4291 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, MI. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00AM.  Interment services for his family will be at Cascade Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Community Ministries, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1100 Lake Drive, Grand Rapids, MI.
