Randall Jon Van Houten, age 58, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, surrounded by his family. Randy was born on September 2, 1965, in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Richard and Kay (Bok) Van Houten. He was a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian high school and went on to earn degrees from Davenport and Aquinas as well as an MBA from Grand Valley State University. He was an accountant who loved working in the manufacturing industry and was highly regarded by his peers in the field. He spent the majority of his career at Cascade Engineering, ultimately holding the title of Senior Financial Analyst. In 2022, he left Cascade to take the position of Senior Corporate Controller at Belwith-Keeler. Randy was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the finance committee for several years. He also shared his accounting expertise with his neighbors, serving two terms as HOA treasurer where his quick wit and humor were the highlight of many conversations.
Randy is survived by his wife Laurie, son Jonathan, parents Richard and Kay, brother Richard, Jr (Beth), as well as loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his sister Kristine Farmer.
The family will receive friends at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral chapel from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Friday, April 19th. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 20 at First United Methodist Church, 227 Fulton St., E, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Forest Hills Education Foundation.
