Dan died peacefully with his loving wife at his side on October 26, 2019. He was a gentle, caring, and honest man who loved his wife Betsey and his children Katie, David and Charley. Also dear to him were his seven grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. The eldest son of Crystal (Braam) and Lewis W. Tinkham, he is survived by his brother David (Tommye) and his sister Janice Kirchgessner. Dan, a long-time member of Kent Country Club, enjoyed his golf foursomes and his “mug hunters,” as well as dancing and traveling. He was on the board of directors of the March of Dimes for many years, as well as a member of Civitan and other community organizations. Dan was an enthusiastic attendee of the Monday Lunch Group for over 50 years. A life-long resident of Grand Rapids, he attended Central High School. Dan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1949 with a BA in Business Administration and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Dan worked for many years at Old Kent Bank (now Fifth Third Bank). A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Meeting House of Porter Hills, 3600 East Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, MI.
