Dale L. Williams MD was born on October 14, 1932 in Concord, Michigan and died on February 20, 2020 at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as, both his sisters. As part of his undergraduate studies at Eastern Michigan University, he spent a year studying in Munich, Germany. Before attending medical school, Dr. Williams served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany, where he met and married his wife Christel. Dr. Williams received his medical degree from Wayne State University in 1964. He was a board certified family practitioner and allergist, who maintained a successful private practice in Muskegon, Michigan. Besides his private practice, Dr. Williams also started the Koinonia Medical Clinic for patients, who could not afford medical care. Dr. Williams also performed missionary work all over the world. This included spending a year at Pingtung Children’s Hospital in Taiwan, as well as mission work in China, Haiti, Nicaragua, Ethiopia, the Congo and Rwanda. In his later years of mission work, he also supplied hundreds of K-Lights, (a reliable solar lantern, which Dr. Williams designed and manufactured) to areas without access to electricity. This included donating K-Lights to the Denis Mukwege Panzi Hospital in the Congo. (In 2018, Dr. Denis Mukwege was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. ) Dr. Williams is survived by his wife, Christel; his daughter, Susan; his sons, Dale (Misty), Peter (Jennifer), and Andy (Trayce); his brother; and, 12 grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by everyone who loved him. The memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at First United Methodist Church, 227 Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 AM preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Work Program, a ministry, which serves people in the Grand Rapids Heartside neighborhood.
