Harry Jones Jr. Obituary

Harry H. Jones, Jr., aged 89 passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2026, surrounded by his family and dear friend, Mike Trenshaw, Harry fought a fifteen year battle with leukemia. Harry was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on May 5,1936 to Harry H. Jones and Erlene Crosby Jones. After graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School, Harry joined the Navy, serving in the submarine service during the Korean War. His submarine, the USS Sea Leopard, conducted a goodwill tour of Europe and the Mediterranean. They also tracked Soviet submarines throughout the Atlantic and into the Arctic waters. After discharge Harry attended Trine University in Angola, Indiana. He then decided to get on with life and returned to Kalamazoo where he took a position selling industrial electronics. Selling was his true love and he eventually became a real estate broker in Grand Rapids, a highly successful career he followed for over 50 years. Harry’s journey through life was highlighted by service to others. He was most proud of his time in Sea Scouts and Boy Scouts achieving the Order of the Arrow and was an Eagle Scout. Harry continued as an adult leader and mentor to other Scouts, participating in summer camps and as a commissioner. He lived by the Scout Law, carrying the principles of being trustworthy, loyal and helpful in his heart every day. Carrying this into his community he was a member of the Kalamazoo Jaycees, served as president of the Downtown Grand Rapids Lions Club. A lifelong blood donor, he donated over 34 gallons during his lifetime before developing leukemia. As a mason and a Shriner, Harry was Potentate of the Saladin Shriners covering most of West Michigan. He loved being a “hospital dad” transporting vulnerable children to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children in Chicago for treatment. It was then, in his 70’s, that he became known as the “Energizer Bunny” to many of his friends. Harry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn (Lyn), son Robert (Bob) Hanna (Brenda), of Caledonia, daughter Elizabeth (Michael) Dallmann of Scottsdale, AZ, Heather (Mark) Libich of Ada, grandson, Christopher (Sara) Hanna, Cleveland, OH, granddaughter, Lauren Bosserman of Caledonia, grandson, James (Milo) Dallmann, Eugene, OR, granddaughter, Rebecca Dallmann of Scottsdale, AZ, granddaughter, Seren (Aspen) Nutt of Mesa, AZ, grandson, Mark Libich, Jr. (Jay Gootjes), great granddaughters, Lucy Bosserman, Caledonia, Avaline and Eloise Hanna of Cleveland, OH., and many nieces and nephews, brother Clancy of Kalamazoo, brother, Michael (Rhonda) Jones of Florida.
