William “Bill” B. Lierle, age 85 of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
Bill was born in Iowa City, IA on September 28, 1933 the son of Dr. Dean M. and Pauline Lierle. He graduated from Kenyon College in 1955 and was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity. Bill rose to the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army reserve.
Bill was well known as the co-founder of the Bagpiper located in East Grand Rapids, a clothing store for men and women. He was a long time employee of Fitzgerald’s Men’s Store in Breton Village and Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home. He was a past board member of the Kent County Humane Society.
Bill was a kind and generous man who took pleasure in helping many people from all walks of life. He was a passionate animal lover who cared deeply for the many dogs and cats he had over the years.
Bill is survived by his brother Richard B. and Ewa Lierle of Delray, FL, nephews Robert M. Lierle, Dean M. Lierle III, Christopher P. Lierle and niece Susan Lierle. He was preceded in death by his brother Dean M. Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 3pm at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Chapel, Pastor Rick Pinckney from Beckwith Hills CRC officiating. For those who wish memorials may be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan.
