Evelyn M. (Overholt) Kruse

Evelyn M. Kruse, age 97, of Grand Rapids and Porter Hills Retirement Community, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 8, 2018. Evelyn was born on October 5, 1921 in Wadsworth, Ohio, the eldest daughter of John and Edna Overholt (Reimer). She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Kruse, 73 years ago. Bill passed away on December 23, 2017. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey W. Kruse, and by her daughter, Lynne M. Kruse. Also surviving are one granddaughter, Noelle Kruse; three sisters, Mary Ellen Cipra, Edna Mae Knecht (Ron), Patricia Hollow (Ken) and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a stay at home mom who found her joy in caring for her husband and in raising her children.  She also found time to give to the community as a volunteer for the Blodgett Hospital Ladies Guild, where she could be found in the coffee shop serving food and cashiering. She was an avid golfer at Cascade Country Club, a competitive bridge player, and a gracious hostess as she entertained in her home. Memorial funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 7495 Cascade Rd. SE, where she was a long-time active member. The family will receive friends at the church for one/half hour prior to the memorial service and at the luncheon following the service. For those who wish memorials may be made to the Bill & Evelyn Kruse Memorial Fund of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church.
