Frank Edward Letherby, 81, of Ada passed away on April 29, 2019. Frank was the only child born to Jesse Cook Letherby and Jessie Boehm Letherby on February 13, 1938 in Traverse City, MI. He was predeceased by his parents and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, of 45 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michael (Becky) Letherby, Frank (Ann) Letherby, Cyndee (Ken) West; grandchildren, Ryan (Michelle) Letherby, Rachel (Quentin) Rogers, Erin (Ryan) VanPutten, Adam Letherby, Mackenzie Letherby, Brandon West, Noah West, Cassidy West; and great-grandchildren Emery, Logan, and Mikayla. Also surviving are the families of cousins Gary, Jack, and George Boehm. His sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, and their families, also survive him. Frank graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1956. He earned his BS degree at Central Michigan University, MA degree at the University of Michigan, and ED.S. degree at Michigan State University. Being a teacher and principal was Frank’s career and professional life which he enjoyed immensely. He greatly impacted the growth and development of countless students for over 40 years through his affiliations with the Monroe Public Schools, East Grand Rapids Public Schools, and National Heritage Academies. In 1994, Frank was selected as Teacher of the Year in East Grand Rapids. In 1996, the EGR sixth grade teachers were recognized as the Team-Teaching Teachers of the Year, presented by the Michigan Association of Middle School Educators. Frank served twice as program chairperson for the annual Middle School state-wide convention. He so enjoyed his family and their achievements greatly and supported them with his attendance and encouragement in various activities both academic or athletic. Frank liked starting each day with a morning walk, doing crossword puzzles, and ending each day reading a book, while watching the sunset. He loved spending summers on Elk Lake with his family. During his retirement years, he and Nancy enjoyed traveling and going to MSU football games. He always looked forward to attending the NCAA basketball tournaments with his sons and grandsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City.
