Gloria Cowen Roy age 92, of Grand Rapids Michigan passed peacefully after living a long and fulfilled life. Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 5, 1926 to Holland and Hope (Mathewson) Cowen. She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years (Harold, Sr.) and is survived by her three children, Harold Jr (Lynn), Patricia (Terry McCarthy) and Barbara (Jon) Easley, two grandchildren, Kristopher (Ellen) Roy and Melissa (David) Pancer and three great-grandchildren, Rainey, Goodwin and Ethan. During the time she was raising her three children she attended Wayne State University and Aquinas College where she received her bachelor’s degree in education. In addition, she attended Western Michigan University and received her master’s degree in mathematics. She taught various mathematics courses at Sparta High School and retired from teaching in 1986 after 25 years of service. She was an avid card player of all games but was mostly a devoted player of Duplicate Bridge. Gloria was member of the ACBL and extremely proud of earning the level of “Silver” Life Masters. We will forever miss her tenacious and loyal spirit, her quick witted humor, and her love of scotch. Memorial service will be held at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Road SE on Saturday May 12, 2018 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will take place one hour before service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be given to the National MS Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163.
