Kareemeh Simon, 91, passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2019 in Chicago, IL where she lived with her daughter Mary. Born in 1928, Kareemeh grew up in Palestine and immigrated to the United States in 1963. She lived in Grand Rapids for over 50 years before moving to Chicago to be with her daughter. Kareemeh met George Simon, her husband of 36 years, soon after moving to Grand Rapids. She and George had two children, Alex and Mary. Kay is preceded in death by her son Alex and her husband George. She is survived by her daughter Mary Simon.
Kareemeh was active in her church in Grand Rapids and was an avid cook and baker specializing in the Middle Eastern cuisine of her heritage. She was a social person who loved meeting new people and traveling. She made friends across the world as she traveled with her daughter to many parts of Europe. Everyone who knew Kareemeh loved her. She always had a kiss and a kind word for all. Those she loved, she loved with a passion.
The family will receive friend from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Chapel with a Trisagion Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 334 LaGrave Ave. SE at 11:00 a.m. Monday. Interment will be at Graceland Memorial Park. For those who wish, contributions may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
