Kathryn "Kate" (nee Oesch) Wheeler, age 88, of Middleville, MI, died peacefully at her home at Carveth Village on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Kate was born on April 29, 1930 to Fredrick and Lucy (Wingeier) Oesch. As a child Kate attended Logan Elementary, graduated from Lowell High School and loved helping out on her Swiss family farm. After high school Kate was a long time employee of the Kroger Company were she was promoted to head cashier and also met her husband, Carl Wheeler, to whom she was married for 33 years. Kate enjoyed reading, attending church, and singing church hymns. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl R. Wheeler, her parents, brother Ernest (Ellen Mae) Oesch, and sisters Ella (Lloyd) Blough, Virginia (Derry) Schutte, and Margaret Oesch. She is survived by her brother Joseph (Melva) Oesch; sister Marilyn (Douglas) Byam; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Alto Michigan. Friends and relatives can meet with the family at the visitation on Friday, October 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The family wants to include a special thanks to Hospice nurse Cate Mussleman, all the workers at Carveth Village, and to Howard Plattner for his many visits to Kate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Carveth Village Adult Living Center or the Apostolic Christian Church.
