Mary Catherine Nowak

Mrs. Mary Nowak (Heitz) passed peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 85 years of age.  She was born in Conklin, Michigan on April 7, 1931 to the late Gregory and Clara Heitz.  Mary worked for decades as a cosmetologist at Steketees, enjoyed her loyal clientele and their lifelong friendships.  Surviving an aggressive form of breast cancer in the 80’s, Mary continued working through her treatment, cared for her family and maintained her positive attitude, always appreciative for those around her.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Nowak, one son, Wayne Nowak, her sisters, Helen Mikula and Rose (Paul) Roberts.  She also has many nieces, nephews and friends.  Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30am Thursday February 16, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1449 Wilcox Park Dr. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506 with Fr. James Chelich as celebrant.  Visitation will be held Wednesday at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8pm with a Parish Rosary at 3:30pm and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  Interment in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Church.
