Nancy G. Porritt

Nancy Gee Porritt, of Bingham Township, died at Clark on Keller Lake in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 4, 2017.  The daughter of Genevieve Alta Lane and James J. Gee, Nancy was born on December 14, 1933.  She graduated from Lowell High School in 1952 and, after completing a two-year secretarial degree at Michigan State University, she married John F. Porritt in 1955.  She had known John since eighth grade and they both graduated from the same high school together.   After their fifth child was born, Nancy and John moved to Traverse City, where Nancy enjoyed horses and was active in the Leelanau County 4-H Horse Bowl. With her strong appreciation for the natural world, Nancy passed on her love of landscape, plants and animals to her children. For decades she was an avid recycler. 

Nancy is survived by her sister Sue Gee Doyle; five children, Greg, Ruth, Beth (David Poore), Jann, and Jeanine (Randy Heibel); five grandchildren, Nathan Porritt, Nicholas Porritt, Lindsey Matro, Jacob Heibel and Gabriel Heibel; and one great-grandchild, Madison Matro.

We, her family, thank the nurses and staff at Clark on Keller Lake and hospice of Michigan for their respectful care of Nancy and their kind treatment of us.  

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday 11am at St. Mary Great Mother of God Catholic Church 402 Amity Street Lowell, MI 49331.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
