Olga “Chim” Josephine Hajek Cassard, age 85, of Grand Rapids, died peacefully on Monday, July 16, 2018. Olga was known by many as a bright, strong, and resilient woman and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born on January 16, 1933 to Dr. Joseph and Olga Weber Hajek in New York, NY. Olga grew up in Manhattan, graduated from the Chapin School and attended Barnard College. She and husband David Cassard, Sr., relocated from New York to Grand Rapids in 1959, and they quickly became active members of their new community. Olga raised her three boys with love and care, and she enjoyed time with friends, playing tennis, the arts and cultural events, travel, and spending many weekends at the family cabin on the Little Manistee River. She was a member of Mary Riste Hospital Guild, Women’s City Club, Kent Country Club, Junior League and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Olga was preceded in death by her husband David Cassard, Sr., in 1985. She is survived by her three sons, David M. (Cara) Cassard, Richard E. (Tracey) Cassard and Robert J.W. (Bara Waters) Cassard, nine grandchildren, Liz (Sean) Agerson, Anne (Michael Greeson) Cassard, Rose (Will) Fielder, Erin (Drew) Schultz, Alyssa (Matt) Bowman, Taylor (Ross) Beal, Dylan (Nicole) Cassard, Elijah Cassard and Avalon Cassard, nine great grandchildren, her brother Dr. Joseph (Cicily) Hajek, her sister Barbara H. Ulman and her caregiver of 17 years Kim Kampers. A private family graveside service was held at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Grand Rapids Community Foundation, St Mark’s Episcopal Church, or a charity of your choice.
