Priscilla P. Hallas

Priscilla Parker Hallas, age 93, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Katherine Parker and her loving husband of 60 years, Donald G. Hallas.  She is survived by her children, Janet P. Hallas, Peter G. Hallas and his wife Carol, and her grandchildren William and Lauren Hallas.  Also, she is survived by her brother-in-law Richard Patton, and nephews, James and David Patton. She was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Grand Rapids after her marriage.  Priscilla was a proud graduate of Michigan State University where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority staying involved her entire life.  She loved to tell stories about her college life since Michigan State was primarily a women’s school due to WWII.  Priscilla was an avid reader and enjoyed her various book club discussions immensely and loved her crossword puzzles.  She was active in many associations and clubs and especially proud of her volunteer work at the Women’s Resource Center and in the Women’s City Club.  She was active tennis player, loved Lake Michigan and skied every winter throughout Colorado, Utah and Canada.  She enjoyed the family camping trips to Yellowstone, Glacier and Banff, except for the bears but always was prepared with her bear bell on her boot.  Priscilla and Don were passionate about international travel.  They toured Europe extensively, Scandinavia and Russia.  Their favorite places were New Zealand and Australia visiting several times.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and especially the family dogs.  The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of Porter Hills, staff of the 6th floor of Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center and Emmanuel Hospice for all of the wonderful care she received. A memorial service will be held at Porter Hills Meeting Hall on Thursday, October 10 at 11:00 am.  Family will greet guests after the conclusion of the service with light refreshments served.  In lieu of flowers a contribution in her name to the following organizations:  Humane Society of West Michigan or Planned Parenthood.
