Russell E. Brown passed away October 14, 2018. He is survived by his wife Judi, children Megan, Lance (wife Kristi), grandson Jacob, sister Nancy (Charles) Fleece and many nieces and nephews. Russ served with the 10th Mountain Division, a branch in the US military who trained for fighting in mountain and arctic conditions. He received specialized training at Camp Hale near Leadville, Colorado where he was trained to live, sleep, climb, ski and fight in snowy conditions for the US Infantry’s mountain warfare unit. Russ was employed by Old Kent Bank for 25 years and was the lease manager for Sharpe BMW for 10 years. However his true vocation was golf. From St. Andrews to his beloved Cascade Hills (and all the courses in between), his passion for golf never waned. The great friendships that were forged on the course created a lifetime of memories. Russ’ greatest joy was watching his children’s and grandson's participation in sports, music, and theater. He was their biggest fan, coach, and an ardent supporter of everything they did. Russ was a kind man of whom a friend once said, “ I never heard Russ say a bad word about anyone.” He will be missed. A private memorial service has taken place with family. There will be a celebration of life to honor Russ on Sunday, October 21 at Cascade Hills Country Club, 3725 Cascade Road SE from 3-5 P.M. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the John Celestino Scholarship Endowment, Development Office, 420 Oak St. Prakken 101, Big Rapids, MI 49307 or to a favorite cause or charity of their choice.
