Sally Wilson Obituary

Sally Francis Rogers Wilson of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away on Thursday June 27, 2019 at the age of 92.  She was born in Grand Rapids on May 10, 1927 to the late Laverne and Mabel Brinkman Rogers.

After graduation from Ottawa Hills High School, Sally attended Grand Rapids Junior College where she met Charles Wilson. They both went on to attend the University of Michigan. After the death of his father, Charles and Sally returned to Grand Rapids. Charles assumed responsibility for the Henry D. Wilson Insurance Agency. Charles and Sally were married on November 27, 1948 and enjoyed 65 years together until his death in 2013.

Charles and Sally shared a passion for ballroom dancing which they incorporated into their travels throughout the US and Europe. They enjoyed playing golf and tennis together. Both were very active in First Park Congregational Church. Sally served for over sixty years as a board member of Park Church Women and as a leader in several guilds. She served the PTA's as her children grew up in the East Grand Rapids School System as well as the Girl Scouts. She served as docent at the Grand Rapids Museum and helped in the formative years of the Grand Rapids Ballet. She loved gardening and was admired for her beautiful gardens at each of her residencies. She especially wants to be remembered for her love of animals. When they moved to Caledonia, she volunteered with Kent Special Riding Program.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband Charles, twin brother Richard Rogers, and sister-in-laws Elizabeth and Mary Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter Anne (Robert) Lloyd, son Mark (Sandra) Wilson, daughter Peggy (Steven) Jurek, grandchildren Megan Davison, Mark Jurek, Lindsay Jurek and great-grandchildren Tristan and Harrison Hickox.

Sally’s family wishes to thank everyone who has been so kind and supportive at her bedside at Porter Hills.

A private memorial service will take place at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Emmanuel Hospice or First Park Congregational Church Grand Rapids Michigan.
