Bill Holcomb, 69, of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Saturday July 21, 2018 while doing what he loved - with someone he loved - riding motorcycles in Wyoming and appreciating God’s creation with his son, Joshua. He leaves this world achieving a final goal: accomplished climber of Devil's Tower. Everyone who knew Bill knew that God, his family, his country and riding motorcycles were his passion. Bill's love of people was expressed through his selfless acts of service and hard work. If you needed him, you always knew Bill would be there. He loved driving a school bus for his kids in Rockford; organizing his tools (each emblazoned with his initials); taking great pride in fixing everything and saying “there is no project to big or small.” Most nights, you could find Bill after a full day of activity relaxing in his favorite chair, headphones on, watching his favorite show.
Bill’s great heart was full of love for his wife, Valerie; his children: Shari (Todd) Hooper, Kati (Rob) Rodriguez, Amii (Ryan) Hostetler and Joshua (Mary Lane); nine grandchildren: Shauna (Kyle) Preslar, Shannon, Ana Rose, Zane Holcomb, Zoe Grace, Joshua William, Nolan, Benjamin, and Emma; one great granddaughter, Hayden; two sisters, Judie (Duane) Goltz and Jean (the late Russ) Cousineau and many other family members.
He was our anchor and the glue that kept the family together; "Papa" to his loving grandkids. Now, he waits in heaven with Jesus for his family to join him.
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Friday at 11am at Ada Bible Church 8899 Cascade Rd SE, Ada, MI 49301. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Mully Children’s Family (3000 Old Alabama Rd Alpharetta, GA 30022). Alternately, a donation basket for new or used tools (self-inscribed with "B.H." - use a sharpie) will be on hand at the funeral home for a donation to Habitat for Humanity.
