Alan R. Brown

Alan Richard Brown of Grand Rapids, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, after a brief illness, at the age of 52. He is survived by his parents, James R. Brown and Susan J. Brown of Grand Rapids; his sister, Laura J. Mutz of Bloomfield Hills, MI; his niece and nephew, Lindsey J. Mutz and Benjamin K. Mutz; his aunt and uncle, Margaret L. Roberts and John P. (Betsy) Keyes. Alan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Freeman and Dorothy Brown, and Phillip and Jane Keyes. Alan was a 1989 graduate of Forest Hills Northern High School and a 1993 graduate of the University of Michigan. At Forest Hills Northern, he was recognized for both his academic and athletic achievements. He excelled as a member of the swimming, tennis, and cross-country teams. He remained a committed swimmer, bicyclist, and long-distance runner throughout his life, completing several Reeds Lake triathlons. To his parents and sister, Alan was the ideal son and brother. A memorial service will be held at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
