Allan Cox IV Obituary

Our beloved son, brother, and friend, Allan Whitfield Cox IV (40) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away tragically from a car accident on September 27th, 2023. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by endless love from his family, friends, and the entire community.

Allan was born on July 1st, 1983, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and he is now reunited with his baby brother, Brandon Jay. Allan graduated from Forest Hills Central High School and participated in many school and social activities—he excelled in tennis, loved to longboard, and met some of his dearest friends and future poker players! He studied at MSU (Go Green!), GRCC, and Ferris State University, where he found his true calling—developing video games and being a tech-innovator.

Allan loved the small-town community West Michigan provided and remained in the Cascade-area, becoming the first employee at Yeti, CGI. He accomplished his dreams by working in the gaming industry. His colleagues at Yeti note that he had a keen ear for detail, combined with a passionate advocacy for clients and humanity. His transformative works with giants like Google and National Geographic were rivaled only by his philanthropic efforts in public health alongside The University of Michigan and the NIH.

Allan was selfless. He was loyal. He created an inclusive space for all. He lived a life filled with magic—both literally and figuratively. He was his own, authentic self and one hell of a poker player and gamer!

Allan is survived by his dear parents Allan and Marcia Cox (née Mull) to whom he was their caretaker, peacemaker, and sous vide chef extraordinaire; his sister and loyal best friend Heather Fox (Brian); his favorite uncle and aunt, Tony and Sue Beavers; his cousins and Thanksgiving gamers, Travis and Lisa Barrett (Abby, Max, and Jake), Jeff and Melissa Tackett (Mason and Reese), and his fellow goofball and gamer-in-arms, Anthony Beavers.
