Antonio S. Senagore, age 98, went to be with his Lord on Friday, October 20, 2023. Antonio was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Josephine Senagore. He will be remembered by his loving wife of 66 years Katherine Senagore, his son and daughter Anthony Senagore (Patricia) of Holland, Michigan, Joann DeWitt (Gregg) of Naples, Florida, their grandchildren Antonio Senagore (Alexa) of Northbrook, IL, Christina McWilliams (Sean) of Baltimore, MD, Katherine Amorello (Matthew) of Chicago, IL, Michelle Sugiyama (Joseph) of Evanston, IL, and his great grandchildren Zoe and Thomas Senagore, Madeleine McWilliams, and his sister-in-law Anna DelPup of Grand Rapids, MI; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Antonio was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 30, 1925 and graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1942. He entered an apprentice program at the Ford Motor River Rouge plant and became a certified boiler operator where he worked for nearly 25 years. He then started his second career, taking over his father’s residential home rental business in Detroit where he successfully cultivated and grew the business as well as a significant number of long-term renters. His broad skills as a handyman resulted in great respect for his skills and appreciation from his renters. He retired in 1988 and he and Katherine moved to Grand Rapids, MI to be close to his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed picking the grandkids up from school and taking them on special fun side trips. He made numerous friends during his morning coffee rounds and trips to Lowes and Home Depot.
Tony, as his friends called him, was an avid gardener who was known for both beautiful flowers but also his cultivation of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant and other vegetables. He regularly supplied the family and neighbors with fresh produce during the Summer. He also shared his well honed handyman skills with his family, neighbors and friends. Tony enjoyed Tiger baseball and watched or listened to most every game. He cheered equally for Michigan State and Michigan teams based on the alma maters of his family.
A funeral mass for Antonio will be celebrated at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2750 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 at 1pm on Friday October 27, 2023. Visitation will be one hour prior, from noon until the time of the Funeral Mass. In honor of Antonio and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to URMC Porter Hills Foundation in Grand Rapids, MI.
