Audrey Jean Kauffman, age 88, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and went home to her loving Lord Jesus on Saturday, May 30, 2020. Mrs. Kauffman was born in Deer Creek, Illinois on September 16, 1931 to John and Beulah Roth. She was the third of six daughters. Her family called her “Jean.” Jean had a passion for teaching children that began when she played school with her three younger sisters. After high school Jean attended a Mennonite Jr. College in Heston Kansas where she earned an Associates in Arts degree in elementary education. Then she taught elementary school for four years before marriage in 1956. Jean also had a passion for Christ and carried on her teaching thorough the rest of her life with children in Sunday school. Jean was an active member at the Thornapple Covenant Church in Grand Rapids, MI at the time of her passing. Jean leaves her thanks to her family and her brothers and sisters in Christ at Thornapple for all the prayers, cards, food, rides, and visits while she dealt with her illness. Jean was united in marriage to Verlin Kauffman who survives, on September 9, 1956. Also surviving are two sons, Mark and Ann (Bykerk) Kauffman of Chico, CA, Kelvin and Rhonda (Johnson) Kauffman of Lowell, MI; two grandsons, Alan and Sheri (Gitelson) Kauffman and Benjamin Kauffman and one great-granddaughter, Adeline. Jean had five sisters, numerous brothers and sisters in law and many nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
