Bernhardt Link Obituary

Bernhardt "Bernie" F. Link aged 93 passed away on April 26, 2019 in Las Vegas Nevada.  He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 42 years, Barbara.  He is survived by his beloved daughter Barbara Lopez of North Las Vegas Nevada, nephew Thomas Fairgrieve, niece Kathy Folkestad.  He was born in Detroit and joined the Marine Corps in 1943 following his graduation from Northwestern High School.  He served with the 5th Marine Division in the Battle of Iwo Jima where he was wounded and later served with his outfit in the occupation of Japan following Japan’s surrender.  He attended Hillsdale College following his discharge from the Corps and graduation from Wayne State University in 1950 with a degree in Business Administration.  His business career included two corporate controllership positions in the Detroit area.  He and his late wife relocated from Dearborn to Grand Rapids in 1983 when he assumed the Presidency of the former Grand Rapids Teachers Credit Union.  He was very active in his retirement years.  One of his most enjoyable activities was the numerous invitations to speak before a variety of groups about his Marine Corp experiences in World War II after 55 years of silence on that part of his life.
