Brian R. Lane

Brian Lane, MD, PhD, age 51 of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away after a seven year battle with cancer on August 12th, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Brian was born in New Jersey on February 14th, 1974, the son of Stuart and Carolyn (Popiolek) Lane.  He graduated as a scholar athlete from Teaneck High School in 1991, after which he continued his education at Yale University, followed by the University of Michigan Medical School earning his MD, PhD.  He moved to Grand Rapids, where he worked in urologic oncology.  His interest in research and improving patient outcomes lead to innumerable publications, as well as national and worldwide respect.

Brian’s energy for anything and everything was a hallmark of his life.  His deep Christian faith led him to influence many who will remember his kindness, generosity, intellectual curiosity, and Christian love. 

Brian is survived by his mother Carolyn DeCarbo, stepfather Gerald DeCarbo, wife Lauren Lane, children Hezekiah Lane, Rebecca Lane, Abigail Lane, Alexis Buckles, and Bristol Buckles. 

The funeral service will be at 2:00pm at Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, reception to follow.
