Candice Faye Schaubel died August 17th at Butterworth Hospital, after a short but heroic battle with cancer. She was 71. Candy was born and raised in Grand Rapids, the oldest of 4 daughters. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, James Rummel, sisters Taylor (Schaubel) May and Wendy (Schaubel) Noder, step-son JH Rummel, 3 nephews and one grandniece, her best friends Brenda and Coleen, and her beloved cats, Spin and Marty. Candy graduated from East Grand Rapids High School and from the University of Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her youngest sister, Gayla, and her mother and father, Dr. and Mrs. Howard James Schaubel.
Candy was a dedicated wealth management advisor and worked right up to a week before her death. She cared deeply for her clients, and they will miss her personal approach to their financial futures. Candy requested no funeral or memorial be held in her honor. She loved animals and asks that any memorials in her name be made to the Michigan Humane Society, or to Crash's Landing in Grand Rapids. Her many hobbies included gardening, needlepoint, reading, knitting and leaded art glass. Candy was a special woman who will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
