Carol C. Murray, loving and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, made her heavenly ascent Monday, May 17 at the age of 74. Born to David H. and Muriel Conger in Grand Rapids on November 20, 1946, Carol lived her life with a constant devotion and passion for her family and friends. She attended East Grand Rapids High School, meeting the love of her life – Louis Murray – before graduating together in 1964 and attending Central Michigan University. Carol taught 3rd grade and middle school Language Arts at Kenowa Hills Public Schools for 37 years, receiving recognition as the Teacher of the Year in 1996. A lifelong teacher and learner, Carol earned her master’s degree from Western Michigan University while at Kenowa Hills. Carol was a member of the Grand Rapids Yacht Club and the Grand Rapids Junior League, served as the Secretary of the EGR Team Boosters for several years, and spent the last eleven springs as the surrogate team mom for Grand Valley State University men’s lacrosse. Carol’s hobbies included reading and knitting. Her knitted gifts for family, friends, and those in need were as warm as her hugs were reassuring. Carol was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sisters Laurie and Julie, and her brother David. Left to cherish her memories are her husband Louis, mother-in-law Irene, sons Brian (Kristie) and Tim, grandson Elliott, sisters Susie, Patti, and Nancy, brothers-in-law David (Anne) Murray and Jim (Diane) Goodrich. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held this fall, with details to be announced.
