Charles Alan Johnson “Charlie” was born in Holland, MI, November 6, 1950. He died, at home, December 17, 2023, from complications of a stroke. Charlie had three great loves: his family, his friends, and hunting and fishing. He endeared all he met with his smile, his laughter, and his tales of his (real and imagined) exploits. He will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his wife of 43 years, Carole (Hubbard, Smiley) Johnson, his children Anne Elizabeth Smiley (Henry Kohn), Christine Smiley Racine (Ryan), and Aimee Johnson Dekker (Jim). He is further survived by brothers Bob (Cathy) and Steve (Pat), sister Beth, 6 grandchildren: Josh, Henry, Jillian, Isabelle, Bradley (Emma), and Nicole (Andrew), and numerous nieces and nephews, including T.J. and Alex, who fondly called him “Uncle Charlie”. His list of friendships includes those he maintained for over 50 years (Brad, Ted, Russ) and the newbies, 25+ years (Alan, Duane, Race, and Doc). To honor Charlie’s love of fishing and hunting, donations may be made to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) in his memory. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held in the spring.
