Chrisa (Milionis) Sellas

Chrisa Sellas, age 88, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Blodgett Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 29, 1936, in Potithania Thoridos, Greece, the daughter of William and Asimo (Mitchackis) Milionis. Chrisa immigrated to the United States with her family as a child, fleeing the devastation of World War II. They settled in Michigan, where Chrisa later graduated from high school and attended Lansing Business College, earning an Associates Degree in Business Administration.

In 1959, Chrisa married Dr. Deno Sellas, and together they made their home in Grand Rapids. Chrisa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an exceptional homemaker, skilled gardener, and a longtime member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where she contributed her time singing in the choir and volunteering whenever needed.

Chrisa was a loving and dedicated mother to her son Spiro “Spee” Sellas and daughter Elaine. Her love extended to her grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply. Her passion for gardening, cooking, and homemaking brought beauty and joy to everyone who knew her. Chrisa’s strong faith and the support of her church community were a source of strength throughout her life.

She is survived by her brother John Milionis (Mary), son-in-law Andrew Milnes, and grandchildren Caroline Milnes, Greta Milnes, Anna Milnes. Chrisa was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Deno Sellas, son Spiro, daughter Elaine and sister Yiota Zarantis (Milionis).

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, January 17th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 3333 13th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI. The family will greet friends on Thursday, January 16th at the church from 4 to 6pm where the Trisagion Service will be held at 6pm.   Internment at Woodlawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spee (Spiro) Sellas Memorial Scholarship Fund, 330 Lakeside Dr NE, Grand Rapids MI 49503.
