Cynthia E. Schad

On October 15, 2021, our family said goodbye to our amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Cynthia Elaine Schad. Anyone who knew Cindy knows that she lit up a room with her warm smile, generous spirit, and loving personality. She loved her family more than anything, and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage to the love of her life Tim. Tim and Cindy raised two sons, Matt and Brandon, who are married to Diana and Colleen. Cindy has three grandchildren, Abby, Nico and Livia, who brought her incredible joy and happiness. We will always be thankful to Dr. Baer and the staff at Mercy Concierge who helped Cindy to spend many more years with us all - what a gift. We are also thankful for the friendship of Jodi Rozema and Margaret Hoag who cared for Cindy with love and patience in Cindy’s last few years. 

Cindy was born on April 20, 1948, to Elaine and Mickey Howe in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. She was a true New England girl, and went on to study vocal performance at Colby Junior College in New Hampshire and Wheaton College in Massachusetts. Cindy and Tim were married in June 1970.  Cindy was instrumental in supporting Nucraft, the family business, and volunteered as a singer with Mayflower church, the Chamber Choir, and the Grand Rapids Opera. She later took up horseback riding, and loved her barn family. She has also adopted rescued greyhounds. 

Cindy was amazing in her generosity - always remembering birthdays and holidays, and helping those in need. Even in her last days she was concerned about everyone else. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the wonderful life she lived - the travel, the friendships, the joy she brought to all who knew her.  A private family service was held and a public Celebration of Life reception was postponed due to covid and will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cindy’s memory to Allies for Greyhounds.
