Dale Sommers

Dale H. Sommers age 78, passed away November 4, 2023 at home. 

Survived by his loving wife Kathy of 56 years, a wonderful family including two sons; Jonathan (Jennifer) and Aaron (Aimee) and four grandchildren; Jack, Ben, Luke and Silas.  Also surviving are his sister, Judy Sommers, in-laws Jim (Kim) Johnson, Mary Johnson and John Baranyi.

Dale was a graduate of Michigan State University and a proud veteran of the US Army, where he served in Vietnam & was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service. 

Dale was employed by Kent County as Personnel Director, Deputy Controller, & County Administrator.  Following retirement he became part of Grand Action serving on the executive committee and then as project manager for the DeVos Convention Center & DeVos Hall renovation,  He also served 6 years as a Board Member for the Kent County Road Commission.  

He loved everything about his family and did anything he could to encourage what they chose to do.  Golf was another love and he made sure all his children and grandchildren had clubs and the opportunity to play.

He will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends.  

A Celebration of Life service for Dale will be held 11am on Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 East Fulton, Grand Rapids.  The family will greet friends on Friday one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11am at the church.  Luncheon to follow.
