David Appel Obituary

David Richard Appel, age 84, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2023. He had been in declining health for several years, but was unfailingly supported by his wife of 60 years, Adris, who preceded him in death by just three days.

David was born on May 9, 1938, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Richard and Katherine Appel. He was preceded in death by sisters Sue Grant and Nancy Bundorf, and brothers-in-law Hector Grant and Don Welling. David is survived by sisters Ruth Welling and Sheri Appel, brother-in-law Tom Bundorf, daughter Shelley (Vince) Parente, son Brian Appel, grandsons Matt, Alex, Nick, and Jack Parente, and Landon deGoa-Appel, as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

David was a gifted artist, particularly accomplished in pencil and watercolor. His hand-painted Christmas cards were treasured by many. He enjoyed golf and gardening, but more than anything David loved spending time with his wife and family.

The family would like to thank Interim Hospice, and many Interim Home Care aides, notably Morgan, Cassie, Lori, Kim, Payton, Danielle, and the very special Trent, who stood by the family at the very most difficult times. Your strength and kindness will not be forgotten.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
