David McGinnis Obituary

David N. McGinnis, born November 18, 1941, passed into the arms of Jesus, June 22, 2024. David is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patty McGinnis, 3 children, Mark (Michaelene) McGinnis, Brad McGinnis, Katie (Chris) Williams, 7 grandchildren, Molly (Spencer) Grimm, Collin (Emily) McGinnis, Kylie McGinnis, Megan McGinnis, Justin McGinnis, Nicholas Williams and Benjamin Williams and 2 great grandchildren Mae Grimm and Sadie Grimm. David is also survived by his siblings Oscar McGinnis, Ann Beaver, Greg (Nancy) McGinnis, Donna (Phil) Butcher and Carolyn Tauche along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was born in Chesterhill, Ohio to Paul & Gladys McGinnis. David was taught a strong work ethic at a young age and he thrived in high school sports. After graduation in ’59 he joined the US Navy and spent 3 ½ years as a quartermaster on a minesweeper. Following his discharge from the Navy he completed his schooling with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Findlay.

David & Patty married in 1967 and started their journey of raising their children. He had several job changes and household moves before starting his wood veneer business in 1982. His veneer business became an international business that allowed him to travel around the world.  Mark & Brad joined him in business which eventually led them to acquire the manufacturing business of MegaWall. As David entered his retirement years he turned the business to the boys.

David loved the Lord. He accepted Jesus at an early age at Mt. Zion Church and grew in his faith through the years gaining his assurance of salvation. David & Patty joined Calvary Church in 1978 and have been very active in several ministries and served on both the Elder and Deacon boards. He has served on various committees and was a trustee on the board of Huntington University where he was chairman of a capital campaign. His influence as a businessman, a leader and a mentor set him apart.

David and Patty loved to entertain family and friends, travel around the world and most of all they enjoyed their time with children and grandchildren. Everyone has a story of how David influenced their lives. Through his love, humor and friendship he made everyone feel important and special. His favorite line that he said to people he knew or even had just met was “Thanks for being my friend.” Hey Dave, thanks for being our friend.
