David Stobert Obituary

David Stobert went peacefully home to be with his Lord and Savior in the evening of March 16, 2026 at the age of 68. He was born July 24, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Arthur and Evelyn (Russell) Stobert.

David was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Debra Ann Stobert, of 47 years and a proud father to David Alexander, and grandfather to his grandson, Charles Gerald, who brought him endless joy. His family was his greatest earthly blessing.

David grew up in Grand Ledge, Michigan and attended Inter City Bible Church (Faith Bible) in Lansing, where he met his future wife. Graduated with honors from Ohio Institute of Technology (DeVry University) in Columbus, Ohio in September 1978. They were married in January 1979.

His first job out of college was with McDonnell Douglas, St. Louis, Missouri as a Software Engineer. There he worked on the F/A-18 Hornet. In 1980, he started working for Lear Siegler (GE Aerospace) in Grand Rapids, Michigan and worked for 43 years till he retired in October 2023. Other career highlights were the navigation system for the highly classified F-117 Nighthawk, also known as the Stealth Fighter and black box data recorders for Boeing commercial planes.

He enjoyed a variety of interests and hobbies starting with at a young age taking things apart just to see how they were made. These included him being an avid reader of science fiction books, scuba diving (certified at age 15), camping, bicycling, swimming, sailing, cross country skiing, passing skills onto his son, computer and online gaming, target shooting guns, wood working, going to movies, and welding.

David served the Lord in several capacities including children’s ministry, as a deacon, and as a leader of a small group. Recently, David resubmitted his life to God and put his eternal future into God’s hands.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Ann (Cleeves) Stobert; son, David Alexander (Samantha) Stobert, grandchild, Charles Gerald Stobert, and brother, Norman (Diana Cleeves) Stobert, two nieces Kelly Stobert and Kari Stobert. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Ruth Cleeves, brother-in-law, Mark Cleeves, brother-in-law, Matthew Cleeves, niece Jaynie (Jared) Leffler, nephew, Joshua (Cora) Cleeves, and four grand-nephews. In addition, he had many friends, co-workers, and church family. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
