Dorcie J. Chesser, age 99, of Comstock Park, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 8.
Dorcie was born on October 3, 1925 in Charleston, Illinois, the beloved daughter of Royal and Bonnie Kingery and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Dorcie was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 67 years, Dale Chesser.
She is survived by her children: Larry (Joanne), Jerry (Carol), and Cheryl Sinigos (Lou), who, along with their families, filled her life with love and laughter. Dorcie was blessed with 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren — a total of 44 descendants for whom she thanked God daily.
A longtime member of Central Christian Church, Dorcie lived her faith daily and served joyfully in her church community.
Dorcie had a passion for knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She lovingly crafted quilts for each of her 44 family members and generously donated hand-knitted mittens and hats to local schoolchildren.
Her legacy of faith, family, and giving will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI, on Wednesday, June 11, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, June 12, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, 2894 Patterson Ave SE, Grand Rapids.
