Doris M. Troll, (96), of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on December 12th.
Doris was born in Dunellen, New Jersey in 1925. Doris met her husband Richard during high school in New Jersey and they shared 74 years of marriage. After moving to Grand Rapids, she raised her family and worked at C. B.Meyers Company and Wurzburg’s department store.
Doris and her husband Richard enjoyed exploring Michigan. They camped and hiked throughout the Upper Peninsula, took annual color tours, and enjoyed many years of boating on the Muskegon River. Doris also had a great love for the lighthouses of Michigan. While her journal lists visits to seventeen different lighthouses, she had a particular place in her heart for the Crisp Point Lighthouse and its restoration.
Doris was also a talented artist. Her wildlife and still life paintings are family treasures that reflect her love of nature and sharp eye for color and shading.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in March 2020, and is survived by her daughter Carlee (James) Koessel, son Richard (Gwen) Troll, grandchildren Brian (Stephanie) Koessel and Kimberly Koessel, great-grandchildren Elsie and Ken Koessel, and sisters Ethel Frey and Marie Rafalowski. She was also blessed with the love and support of her extended family, many friends, and neighbors.
