Douglas Brock Obituary

Douglas Gordon Brock, age 83, of Lowell Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, the second child of Graham and Corinne, and was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Arthur Brock.

Douglas was the devoted and beloved husband of his wife of 58 years, Noreen. Together, they created a beautiful family, and he is survived by their six children, Michelle, Gregory, Colleen (Jeff) Bara, Carolyn (Chad) Ettmueller, Michael (Marina), Jennifer (Jason) Chapman, and the father of four of his grandchildren, Christopher Hackett.

He was a cherished grandfather to 13 grandchildren: Rachel, Benjamin, Sarah, Matthew, Conner, Kenna (Patrick), Madeline, Braxton, Boden, Emerson, Baron, Brock, and Beau. He was overjoyed to know that his first great-grandchild is due to arrive in the spring.

A graduate of Gesu Catholic School and University of Detroit Jesuit High School, he attended the University of Detroit and started his 46-year career as a television engineer at WWJ-TV and then WDIV-TV Channel 4 in Detroit.

Upon his retirement in 2006, it was no surprise to learn that he achieved near-perfect work attendance over the course of his career. Through his work, Douglas helped chronicle many major sporting and news events, and his steadfast work ethic embodied dedication and commitment.

He was an avid amateur radio operator, model train enthusiast, and enjoyed discussing history and current events. Those who knew him will fondly recall his words of wisdom and dry sense of humor. He enjoyed the companionship of his children’s dogs: Winston, Macy, Gipper, and Nelly.

Douglas was a devout Roman Catholic who guided his family with a quiet strength rooted in his unwavering devotion to Christ. He led a life of sacrificial love and reflected the compassion, generosity, mercy, and love of God in every encounter.  His singular ambition was always to simply be a faithful servant of the Lord.
