Dr. Harold N. Stinson Jr.

Harold Nathaniel Stinson, M.D. passed away on Wednesday October 22, 2025 at the age of 75.

It was springtime in Keysville, Georgia; and the birth of Harold N. Stinson, Jr. on April 18, 1950, added beauty and joy to the home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Harold N. Stinson (Constance Robinson Stinson). An only child, he grew up in the Superintendent’s home, next door to the boys’ residence hall at Boggs Academy.

Harold was inquisitive and studious and pursued studies in the Burke County Public School System through seventh grade.  He enrolled at Boggs Academy, a Presbyterian related, residential, secondary school, for his eighth through eleventh grades. For his senior year, however, he studied at a military preparatory school in New York. He was an excellent student at Yale University; but elected to transfer to Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama, when student protests on college campuses became prevalent. After college, he enrolled in the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama in Birmingham graduating with honors. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at Henry Ford Hospital. After relocating to Grand Rapids, Michigan, he practiced medicine for many years. Following his retirement, he engaged in Medicare certifications for several years.

Having grown up in a devoutly Christian home, Harold embraced membership in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). As an ordained elder, he was active in worship leadership and membership development.

Harold was predeceased by his parents; grandparents; uncles and aunts; and his wife of twenty-six years, Shirley Ann. He is survived by extended family and good friends, whom he held dear, and his longtime and beloved companion, Wendy Tucker.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-7pm Sunday, October 26, 2025 at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.  A graveside service will take place at 11am CT at Memory Hill Gardens in Tuscaloosa, AL on November 1, 2025.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harold’s name may be made to Stillman College, Tuscaloosa, AL.

Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own, but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.
