Youn S. Kim, M.D. passed away peacefully on May 24, 2020 at the age of 93. Dr. Kim’s life embodied the American Dream. He was born in South Korea and, after serving as a doctor in the Korean War, Dr. Kim and his wife Suzie emigrated from their homeland to escape the ashes of war, and in the hope of building a better life for their young family. After relocating to the United States, he worked for many years at Blodgett Hospital and also St. Mary's Hospital and was a world-renowned cardiovascular surgeon. He dedicated his life to his work and his family. After retirement, Dr. Kim continued to share his talent as a missionary doctor in Kenya.
Dr. Kim is preceded in death by his wife Suzie and his son Joseph. He is survived by his sons, Paul Kim, John (Mary) Kim, daughter Bonnie Brameijer, and grandchildren Jennifer, Michael, Johnathan, and David.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30th at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. A celebration of Dr. Kim’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 1st from 12pm until 3pm at Townsend Park, 8280 6 Mile Rd, Cannonsburg, MI 49317. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cascade Township, MI.
