Elizabeth deBlumenthal Visser passed away on April 17, 2026 at the age of 78. She was born on August 24, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Michael and Helen (Langston) deBlumenthal.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, John R. Visser, daughter Elizabeth and sons Randy and Mike, grandson Zachary, and extended family, friends, and acquaintances.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by Michael and Helen (Langston) deBlumenthal, her in laws Richard and Alberta Visser, and her brother-in-law Sid.
Elizabeth was a devoted mother and wife who embraced her passion for cooking after her children were grown and studied culinary arts at GRCC and became a chef. She loved spending her summers in Northern Michigan, were she became part of a tight knit community, and regularly enjoyed entertaining her nieces and nephews - Elliott, Sophie, Becca, Richard and Ashley - and their parents Marcia and Rob and Rich and Penny. As a young woman in Chicago, before becoming a mother, she pursued an education and career in nursing, and that passion for medicine stuck with her throughout her adult life.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held Friday, May 1st, 2026, with a visitation beginning at 11 AM EDT and a service at 12 PM EDT at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
