Ellen Jean Wittkowski

Ellen Jean Wittkowski (Moser) aged 82 was reunited with her beloved husband Bob Wittkowski on November 12, 2020.   Ellen was born September 13, 1938, and was a lifelong resident of East Grand Rapids, MI.  

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents Richard and Mildred Moser, brother Dick Moser, and nephew whom she raised from boyhood Michael Bouwknegt. 

Ellen is survived by her children Laura (Gene) Rose and Phil (Angie) Wittkowski.   Her precious grandchildren John (Wendy) Pifer, Kathleen (Mitch) McWilliams,  Jacob Witte,  Mary Kate Wittkowski, and Anne Marie Wittkowski and great-grandson Finnley McWilliams.    Brother Bill (Ann) Moser, Sister in law Linda Moser, her Best Friend of 80 years Libby (Young) Headrick and family; and her Amazing Neighbors from Maxwell.

For over 60 years, Ellen was a resident on Maxwell Street.  It was the street where she fell in love and  married the boy next door and chose to live and raise her family.   She so cherished the sense of community and her many wonderful neighbors who became lifelong friends to her, her children, and granddaughters. 

Ellen was a graduate of Michigan State University and proud of her 37-years as an educator, she served as a mentor to many young teachers and working mothers throughout her career.  The families of St. Thomas the Apostle School, where she taught for 36 years always held a special place in her heart.

She also enjoyed playing canasta and special celebrations with her card group. 

Ellen was grateful for the friendships she developed when she moved to Clark Retirement Community.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle on Monday, November 16th at 10:30 a.m.

All are welcome to attend the mass, with social distancing and masks are required.

Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Emmanuel Hospice for the amazing care and comfort they provided Ellen once she entered their care, they were truly a blessing in her final days.
