On the morning of August 18, 2020, Evelyn Joyce Brus (Evie) was called home by her Lord and Savior. Evie was born in Hollandale, MN on May 12, 1932, the third child of Florence and Bernard Grotenhuis. At the age of 6, the family moved to Grand Rapids where Evie spent the rest of her years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank W. Grotenhuis, her sister Betty Kregel and sister-in-law Iva Brus. She will be dearly missed by her three children, Terri Kast, Barbara (Barrie) Bechtel, David Brus, her precious grand-daughters, Holli and Gracie Brus, and Lilly and Paige Harsevoort, her three sisters-in-law, Bea Grotenhius–Zylstra, Marty (Bill) Pyper and Mary (Ron) Wybenga, as well as her very dear and special friend William Stroh. She also leaves behind other family members including many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and countless wonderful friends.
Evie was a long-time member of Calvary Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir for many years. She had a strong faith, an immense love for others and her upbeat and ageless spirit was evident by the vast number of friends she had.
A Celebration of Evie’s Life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 21, at Calvary Church, 707 East Beltline NE, Grand Rapids. The family will be available at 10:00 am to welcome visitors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church. Calvary Church encourages all visitors to adhere to the social distancing and mask wearing guidelines.
